About us

Some words about us

Walking along the streets of Athens, the air filled with a sense of comfort. When an Athenian or a University of Georgia student leaves this town, the town never leaves them. The people of Athens love their city, but they have no way to effectively and efficiently collect the historical memories of their town. Here is a solution for that problem. Developed by Fall semester New Media capstone students, this web app allows users to access Athens’ past through the stories and photos of those who live in and love Athens. Users can upload their photos of a location–-like a family church–-and give a story of its importance. Vintage Athens is dedicated to providing these experiences at the tap of a button. This is the city’s app. In the future, we envision this as something that can be applied to towns of all shapes and sizes nationwide.

Take a look at our features

Mobile Web App

Our app is a responsive web-application designed using Symfony, a tool which uses PHP and MySQL technology, and Curl.

Google Maps

Google maps provide an easy-to-use open-source map onto which we can insert photos and texts to really bring Athens' past to life.

We utilize crowdsourcing on our app to allow all Athens-lovers to contribute their stories and photos to make Athens' history universal.

Content Verification

To provide the truest stories of our beloved Athens, we have a back-end verification system in place to ensure no inappropriate content is circulated.

Take a look at our assignments from along the way

Over the course of the semester, we have submitted a plethora of assignments to ensure our success. With the help of our mentor, professors, and classmates, we have taken these rough drafts and transformed them into a final product worth showing off. Below, you can find our work, old and new, to see the progress we have made and experience the process that we have endured.

Our many thanks
